Couples Therapy

Understanding what happens between you.

Thoughtful attention to the relationship and to each person’s experience.

You may find yourselves returning to the same argument, or saying less because conversations have become difficult. There may be a sense of distance, a loss of trust, or uncertainty about the relationship. Couples therapy offers time to understand these experiences together, including what each of you has found difficult to say or hear.

Listening more closely to the relationship.

Understanding recurring conflict.

We explore how difficult conversations unfold, what each person experiences, and how their responses affect one another.

Attending to what is unspoken.

Needs, fears and expectations can be difficult to express, especially when a relationship feels strained. These can be approached with care, without assuming that both people understand an experience in the same way.

Considering what comes next.

The work may involve communication, trust, boundaries or decisions about the relationship. Its direction is discussed with you, rather than decided in advance.

What the first conversations may involve.

Your therapist will ask about your relationship, what brings you to therapy and what each person hopes will change. You will discuss goals, confidentiality and how sessions will work.

Couples therapy is not about requiring a particular outcome. The work can include exploring connection, repairing trust or making considered decisions about your relationship.

Practical information.

Couples therapy is $240 per session. Confirm session length, therapist availability and appointment format with the practice. In-person appointments take place in Ottawa; online options are available across Ontario when suitable.
